It is said always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed. Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well. What I do here is just sharing my thoughts I have about my community and I hope this will purify my vow to keep my heart calm.
Nair is the name of a caste ((Hinduism) a hereditary social class among Hindus; stratified according to ritual purity in the Southern Indian (A member of the race of people living in North America when Europeans arrived). Nairs are a warrior class they are similar to the samurai of Japan.
The word Nair is either derived from the Sanskrit ((Hinduism) an ancient language of India (the language of the Vedas and of Hinduism); an official language of India although it is now used only for religious purposes). The meaning can be word Nayaka (leader) or Naga (snakes and in due course of time the word become Nair. The Nair class name also encompasses Menons, Panickers, Pillais Unithanz, Thambies, Nambiars etc. too.
The origin of the Nair caste is uncertain. Some anthropologists are of the view that the Nairs are not indigenous to Kerala, One theory is that Nairs are actually the descendants of the Newars of Nepal.
There exists another disputed view that the Nairs and Rajput (A dominant Hindu military caste in northern India) are related, moving south and thus becoming the Nairs .There is no real proof behind this claim, which may or may not be true.
Yet another theory is that the Nairs are indigenous to Kerala, but gained the sharper features and fairer complexion due to intermarriages with the Namboothiris (The namboothiris are the brahmins of kerala....)
In short we can clear these fact - the Nairs are a large matrilineal warrior caste of Kerala State in India. Traditional Nair families are headed by a woman, with whom lives her siblings, sisters' children and other matrilineal relatives. In Nair tradition, a man moves back to his mother's residence shortly after his wedding ceremony and children belong to their mother's lineage.
Now the exceptions are coming as social order is changed and families are becoming nuclear and the purpose of living with their children and wives make nair youths to take steps to find way to live out side the family arena and try to lead a life themselves than common big combined tharavadus.

Using your logic you can include Irish folks with last name McNairs in the Nair caste of Kerala.
In my opinion there is no relevance to Nair caste anymore. In terms of reservation, all lower castes are getting the spoils. In terms of political power, muslims and christians are ruling kerala. Nairs cannot even unite together and create a vote bank.
When Mannom was there he created NSS for this. But under the able leadership of Narayanana Pakikker, NSS is the lowest in the food chain now.
Yes, in your website you can put quotes and write things in upper case letters. But sadly, it does not reflect reality.

Google does not decide anyone's caste.
If her last name is Nair it does not mean that she belongs to the Nair caste of Kerala. Since she is born to Punjabi parents, she is a Punjabi and they don't have Nair caste in Punjab.
So you can say her last name is Nair, but you should remove her from the list of Nairs in your site as you are talking about Nair caste of Kerala.

Mira nair can be Punjabi or nayar, but she is listed under nair only because while searching for "nair personalities" we got her name.

But I, obviously, have some serious work on my end tracking down all of this and then making sure I plug holes.
Information is the result of processing manipulating and organizing data in a way that adds to the knowledge (of the person or more)receiving it. I believe that is for spreading out rather than make that brood it self some where like a flower that blush in desert and waste its sweetness. Let us not get etangled in individuals. Nairs, who are originally Indo-Aryans have always been the backbone of kerala society. They are the most superior people militarily and in terms of intelligence. Even though Nairs are just 15% of the population in kerala, their strength is all pervasive. Recently christians have been gaining but still Nairs are unbeatable. Nairs represent the great hindu civilization of kerala. All nairs should unite to keep our culture. The christians(15%) and muslims(20%) have been destroying our language, art, literature and all our customs. All other low caste Hindus (including ezhavas-20%) who are about 50% are basically aboriginals and tribals are inconsequential- except crying for reservations like slaves. I hate reservations. If there is no resservation nairs will take 60-70% of all competitive exams seats, christians may be 30%. These low castes cant even get 5% without reservations.
Nairs must make sure their dominance remains in kerala society. Let us talk about practical ways to maintain our position than wasting time in these stupid personality discussions like Mira nair. Nair dont need certification of their strength from anybody. How can we protect ourselves from the christian dominance. BJP, RSS are making an effort to regain past hindu-nair-brahmin glory. we must support it. We should know it was the British who weakened Nair dominance in Kerala, as always they were divisive and destructive, blood sucking parasites. Kerala is on the path to destruction with all these reservations and growth of christians and muslims. Every well off Nair must make a pledge to fund the education of one poor nair, NSS is doing good work, pl support them.

Why do we talk caste- because these Quota politics will destroy the indian society. There is nothing wrong in a strong sense of identity of one's background. Our main issue may be reservation but tell me how can you see an ezhava different from a nair. well ezhava will not pose danger to you, but muslims can pose. they can kill your confidence. I will explain in my next post please see.

even if one is a Nayyar they are nair. Say the punjabi nayyars. do u know what happened. A nair from kerala was taken to punjab as a healer and mantarvadi by the famous, was it maharaja ranjit singh ?, whose descendants became nayyars, In hindi they pronounce nair as Nayyar, kuldeep nayyar (who acknowledges it) , suseela nayyar, are all nairs. Late MKK Menon did some home work on that. Yes, all who r successful nairs claim as theirs, this is not so.
Those who joined the army(Nair Pattalam) irrespective of caste and creed became "Nayar".That was what happened in Travancore.No relation to Nagas/nayakas

Nair community in Kerala was very strong when a charismatic leader like Mannathu Padmanabhan was laive. Unfortunately the recent leadership is colourless and inactive and foolish. Please do something beneficial for the community to arise.
It is nice to see somebody started a blog like this , we could have creaticely discussed some relevent to this community rather than discussing simple pitty things , we could have disscussed some of the oldest nair families in kerala(tharavadu) and also their condition now.(like kavalappra in palakkad), we should not forget our past , at least it would give some memmories and also we should not forget that thier are men who are capable of doing very important things to our state as wellas to our country.
